PROBIOTICS THE HEALTHY NEW TREND.

Probiotics are the new healthy trend thanks to recent research into their health benefits that have shown that they do tend to be pretty beneficial when consumed in adequate amounts. The WHO definition of them is that they are living micro organisms that are beneficial for their host. So science is once again taking its fabulous ideas from nature.

We all have microbes in our gut – some are useful and some are harmful. The latter are more toxic for our bodies but certain amounts of the good ones can help balance things up in order to maintain a healthier stomach. These good and useful microbes are the probiotics that everyone is talking about. Probiotics themselves are nothing new. But their commercialization is. In the new era of healthy lifestyles, probiotics seem to have a privileged position and the marketing around them is making people more aware of their existence and their benefits, therefore putting the products that contain them more in demand.

There are now an enormous range of products claiming they have one or other string of probiotics; lactobacillus probably being the most popular one, being found in fermented dairy products like yoghurt and because it is linked to the immune system. So we see healthy looking people on TV now claiming they owe it all to their breakfast yoghurt.

In this society where being beautiful and slim is not an option anymore but a must for survival, getting your hands on products that claim they can help you lose weight by regulating your digestive system is highly desirable. This can be tempting especially when you will be consuming something that is already inside you. In doing so, it is like sending in reinforcements – a natural way of taking care of yourself.

Just remember that you can’t just consume something because you have been told they are good for you. Firstly, the research into probiotics’ more extended benefits is still taking baby steps and each investigation takes on a specific string of probiotics. The results that you will see in your own experience will depend greatly on which ones you consume.

Finally, even where so far probiotics have proven beneficial and are now more easily accessible, they cannot replace formal medicine. If you have serious health concerns you should see your doctor instead of just getting yoghurt. If anything, probiotics should be a supplement to a balanced diet and doctor’s advice.
